TEAM RML
B.B.C. Carentan 28th April 2012
Both the Barcelona and Tarbes Teams plus yearlings, 34 in all,  have been entered for marking at Walkern on Thursday 26th April. This the first training race of the year, from Carentan,  and the main objective, for the older pigeons, is to have a good fly and get the exercise that helps them on the way to fitness. Time and position are largely irrelevant while for the yearlings the target is simply to get home.

The liberation point however looks to provide a good clear start to the race and so we hope for good weather to set them on their way.

Weather
Thursday 26th April.

Marking went ahead in the normally efficient and friendly manner you find at Walkern. Fortunately the heavy showers held off until most if not all the pigeons had been marked. Stephen, the new Transport Manager and driver, arrived dead on time and all were loaded successfully for him to set off in good time to reach Salisbury by 1700. Our entire TEAM of 34 have been sent and we can only hope for a reasonable opening in the weather. I intend to put arrivals on the BBC site HERE so that those interested can follow in near real time.
The times of arrivals is as below.
Monday 30th April 2012

Well after being held over for two days due to very heavy rain throughout the country and channel the pigeons were at last liberated at 0905 today. The weather conditions generally were quite good although there was some rain in the west country and Wales in the morning but a stromg SSE wind was the dominant feature of the day. The winning velocities were quite extraordinary but that also meant a tough time for pigeons coming over to the east. While the winner was doing 2349 ypm our best was down to 975 ypm. Our returns were quite good getting all the old birds on the day with the sole exception of "The Mealy" GB 08 R 45917  "DAEGBERHT". This cock has a mind of his own and has often gone missing for a day or two and has been up to two weeks late from a race returning as if he had never been away. So we have hope he may return meanwhile we have got 8 of the yearlings back and I think, circumstances as they are, this is not too bad at all.
